Foreign Language Proficiency as part of a Global MBA Program?

10-25-2011 01:09 PM

As business becomes more global, more global MBA programs are in existence nowadays. Many global MBA programs have a requirement that most MBAs don’t—foreign language proficiency. International Educator (IE) magazine, published by NAFSA: Association of International Educators, is investigating the practice of requiring foreign language proficiency in global MBA programs.

Specifically, IE is interested in learning about global MBA programs that have been started in the last five years or so that require foreign language proficiency as a requirement. IE is also interested in learning why foreign language was important to the curriculum, how important it is in the admissions process, what foreign language training or immersion programs are offered as part of the global MBA program to help students achieve language proficiency for graduation. A few global MBA students who achieved foreign language proficiency through their global MBA program might be selected for interviews as well as global MBA or language faculty teaching in global MBA programs.

If your institution offers a global MBA and requires foreign language proficiency to complete the degree and has faculty who can comment, please send an e-mail to elainal@nafsa.org by Wednesday, November 2. This is for preliminary research for a possible article.
