Building a strong school brand has never been more important for business schools. As the competition for a shrinking pool of students intensifies, standing out in a crowded environment in more challenging than ever. Adding to the challenge is an increasingly complex digital landscape that makes it harder to truly break through all of the “noise.” Darren Klein has spent the last 20 years building higher education brands, from large business schools to small regional campuses. In this session he will share the lessons he has learned in standing out and growing in this challenging market. He will provide best practices on how to build a school brand within a larger university brand, how to reach increasingly fragmented audiences, and how to truly measure the impact of your marketing investment.

Darren Klein is the founder and president of DK Strategic Marketing Edge with a long track record of building higher education brands that drive enrollment growth. Over a 20-year career at Indiana University — including 13 years at the Kelley School of Business — he built brands and marketing strategies that delivered exceptional results in some of higher education’s most competitive markets. As Executive Director of Marketing at Kelley, he led development of the school’s brand strategy, driving a 42% increase in enrollments and generating substantial revenue growth. Before that, as the first marketing director for Kelley Direct — the school’s online MBA and MS portfolio — he grew enrollments 80% while raising average GMAT scores by 30 points. Most recently, he led the rebranding of IU Online, growing new enrollments by 50%.
